There are several different size, types and conditions of steel shipping containers (often referred to as storage containers) and it can be confusing.  They most common size of containers are 20’ Foot Long and 40’ Foot Long.  Any other length container would not fit on the container vessel stacks so there are these 2 common sizes.  The standard dimensions for these 2 sizes are:

20’ x 8’ x 8’6” steel shipping container

Or

40’ x 8’ x 8’6” steel shipping container

These 2 sizes can come in both “New” shipping containers and “Used” shipping containers.  Anytime someone refers to a container as “new”, it means it has been built in China and used 1 time with cargo to its destination.  “New” Containers can have a scratch or ding that it may have incurred on its voyage over from China.  As far as types go, here is a list of the common terms associated with the 20 ft and 40 ft long boxes:

Wind and Water Tight Shipping Container = Used container that does not have any holes or leaks, good storage container, however term does not consider the cosmetics of the container.  Canons Park always has plenty of these containers in stock on our yard in Conroe, Texas.

As – Is Shipping Container = Used container sold “as is”, most likely has issues whether, it is holes, floor damage or very rusty

Standard Shipping Container = 8’6” Tall

Hi Cube Shipping Container = 9’6” Tall

Double Door Shipping Container = Container doors installed on both ends of container (mainly these are new boxes only)

Open Side Shipping Container = Container where 1 full side of the container has doors that open up (mainly these are new boxes only)

Mini = 10’ Long Containers (mainly these are new boxes only and typically are more expensive than a new 20’ for the reason of how they have to be shipped from China)
